Is it worth buying a bike for more than £150? The people in the bike shop tell you there's a big difference between a £200 and a £300 bike. Is this really true? How much is reasonable for a bike you ride to work on and take on holidays 3x a year?
Well, I know that old bikes can develop cracks in the frames, etc. which might throw you off at awkward moments. And nice bikes are more likely to get stolen.
My thought is, that unless you're a bike fan, best to budget to replace a cheapish bike unless you can tell the difference yourself between this and a more expensive one.
Maybe I should take the Alan Sugar approach. He went to buy a new pair of specs and asked the vendor how much the most expensive pair cost. "£500" said the man. So Alan Sugar gave him £500 and said "now tell me which pair suits me".
