Apparently there's a shortage of people willing to donate their bodies to medical science.
Presumably our future doctors need to understand human anatomy, and cutting up dead people is how they learn it.
Would you donate your body to be used for this purpose? Should donation be automatic unless one opts out?
Noooooo dont want to be used for medical experiments.
ReplyDeleteYou wouldn't feel a thing, honest.
ReplyDeleteYou also have to think about the people left behind, maybe not that enthused about their loved one being joked over by medical students with a black sense of humour...
ReplyDeleteI think most medical students are quite respectful in the Dissecting Room. Lots of them feel they get to know the body, and they have a ceremony at the end to say goodbye.
ReplyDeleteAnyhow, most of the time they don't actually get to cut the bodies up any more, it's done by a demonstrator.
Also, I don't think black humour is a reason not to educate medical students. People in difficult jobs always find a way of making light. It's not a reason to discard what society needs - doctors who know how our bodies are put together.
Or to put it another way, your life may be saved by a surgeon who learned anatomy on a body - would you deny that to others?
How would one go about donating their body?
